Switch material science has advanced significantly, with manufacturers experimenting with new polymers to achieve specific sound and feel profiles. POM (polyoxymethylene) stems are self-lubricating and produce a deep, smooth sound. PC (polycarbonate) stems offer a brighter, more clacky sound. UHMWPE (ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene) stems are exceptionally smooth and produce a unique creamy sound. Nylon housings absorb vibration for a deeper, fuller sound. PC housings are stiffer and brighter. POM housings offer excellent dimensional stability and a muted sound. Hybrid materials like POK (polyketone) combine the smoothness of POM with the impact resistance of nylon. Material pairing matters: a POM stem in a Nylon housing produces a deeper sound than the same stem in a PC housing.
